If you have been around these parts before, you will know that this is because I struggled with adult acne in my early 20s.
During this time, I invested a small fortune on dermo appointments and skin care products, wasted countless hours orchestrating the daily battle between my concealer and blemishes, cried a lot (true story), and put a ton of unhealthy chemicals on my head — unpleasant, kill-all-the-acne-causing-bacteria-there-ever-was compounds.
I knew I needed to get these chemicals out of my life but was scared as I learned more about body and wellness burden. What about my epidermis!?
Didn’t I want those chemicals?
Ironically, doing a complete 180 and embracing an extremely gentle, fully natural skincare and beauty routine (together with a nutrient-dense diet, of course!) Let me achieve the clear skin of my fantasies.
Nowadays, my skincare routine is also geared towards anti-aging.
(Just hit a landmark birthday: 30! ) )
And since I geek out on beauty and skincare more it seemed only appropriate to put a post about my natural skincare and beauty regimen.
My routine is quite straightforward and that I expect will be inspire one to go natural or try something new!
Now you might still be wondering why…
Do natural beauty and skincare products really work?
Yes it had been pretty tough to find a pure mascara that lasted over an hour without flaking beneath your eyes.
But as demand for safer products and the organic beauty market has grown, we all know have a great deal of safe, natural, high-performing alternatives to select from.
You don’t need to sacrifice beauty in the name of health or vice versa!
And lots of organic, non-toxic skin care ingredients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10, charcoal, and niacinamide are so effective that they have even reverted into mainstream beauty lines. And skincare techniques such as exfoliation help prevent defects and increase collagen production — if you are utilizing a natural exfoliant or nasty-filled exfoliant! So choose the edition, I say!
OK so let’s get to it!
I wash my face each day. Yes, just once every day! Your face can throw off microbiome and the pH of the skin, each of which are crucial for keeping skin.
I alternate between Beautycounter’s Charcoal Cleansing pub , which is very good for purifying pores, and InstaNatural’s Glycolic Acid Facial Cleanser so as to not over-exfoliate my epidermis. That having been said, glycolic acid is a wonderful exfoliant which helps both to keep flaws and signs of aging away. Win win!
Exfoliation is a absolute MUST. So if you are not doing it yet, you have to begin ASAP, my buddy. As it helps to keep pores clean and stimulates collagen production. Plus, it improves skin texture and helps makeup go on much more easily.
Nevertheless, in regards to exfoliation, it’s so important not to overdo it! While people with sensitive or sensitive skin should exfoliate no more than once a week those with oily skin should exfoliate 1-2 times each week. And since I do use an exfoliating face wash every other day, I exfoliate just once.
I prefer and recommend chemical exfoliants (acids and enzymes) over granular exfoliants (scrubs).
I’ve recently become obsessed with the hydrosols of Mountain Rose Herb! They provide the advantages of those pure botanical extracts to skin and smell amazing. I have honestly tried nearly all them (embarrassing to acknowledge!) … but adore the Lavender and Neroli most.
VITAMIN C SERUM
Vitamin C does everything. As a powerful antioxidant it helps to reduce blemishes by preventing sebum oxidation, increases the production of collagen, also helps lighten dark spots.
Now I’ve tried A LOT of different vitamin C serums and also my favorite is Mad Hippie’s vitamin C Serum. Instead of l-ascorbic acid (that could be quite irritating and oxidizes easily), it contains sodium ascorbyl phosphate, which is quite gentle, considerably more secure, and studies have found to be beneficial for combating breakouts and acne. Additionally, it contains a lot of other skin-loving goodies like hydrating hyaluronic acid, antioxidant ferulic acid, and konjac root (which helps fade hyperpigmentation). So much to appreciate!
It’s all about the face oils, infant. Whenever anybody compliments my skin (it blows my head when that happens!) , I immediately blurt out « FACE OIL! » And get started gushing with an intense enthusiasm about it how a child gushes on a day in the beach/their favorite movie/mermaids/anything damn exciting — you know and .
I’ve tried dozens of face oils through the years — the various fatty acid compositions and the impact this has on different skin types fascinated me. And I’ve recently taken of obsessing research, this years and bottled up my blends for you too — Body Unburdened Beauty Blends!
At night after cleansing, exfoliating, and toning, I very generously apply Beauty Blend No.1. While I used to apply oils both day and night, I often use a natural CC cream during the day (see below) for some SPF policy and absolute color.
Oh good, do I really like a face mask that is good. A week, I use a mask roughly — a mask like mentioned above once a week and either a clay-based or hydrating mask based on the needs of my skin.
I’ll just slather on some organic raw honey if my skin is dry/irritated is a natural humectant that draws and retains water to the skin.
Typically however, I mix one of my Body Unburdened Customizable Mud Masks and the honey for the added benefit of clays that are pore-perfecting, hydrating marshmallow and aloe, and fruit and herbal extracts! (Yes, I still had a great deal of fun inventing and analyzing these!)

While I see something beginning to rear its ugly head, I stay strong and scream »GO AWAY, MONSTER! » Just kidding; that’s exactly what I tell my niece to do if we encounter »creatures » while playing. I dab a tiny lavender essential oil on the blemish for a spot treatment before employing my face oil. EOs will need to be diluted but chamomile can be put on the skin.
DAILY SPF + COLOR
I am obsessed with both Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular CC Cream and Beautycounter’s Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer. Juice Beauty’s formulation is a bit thicker, so I use it on days when I need some protection. They’re both fantastic, have decent SPF coverage, and a 1 Skin Deep evaluation.
On days when I need to stop shine or a little extra coverage, I employ 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Powder Foundation.
In addition, I use 100% Pure’s Long Concealer using Super Fruits. I have pretty bad circles when I smile AND eyes that scrunch up way. Thus a lot of concealers look cakey and accentuate my own expression lines around my eyes not a look that is fantastic. This is the sole concealer I’ve found so far that does not!
Pure’s Black Tea Mascara. Hands down. The ideal. Enough said.
I’m obsessed with creamy eye shadows that provide just a small bit of colour and glow without making me look like a 13 year-old from 1998 (in other words, really glittery) — that they somehow create my whole face seem brighter and most glowy. Small miracle workers!
My favorites: RMS Beauty Eye Polish (in just about every colour!) And 100% Pure’s Satin Eye Shadow at Star, I use to the inner corners of my eyes to brighten up them.
Beautycounter’s Satin Powder Blush is my current favourite. I prefer since if applying over a CC cream or face oils, it is easier to use a powder blush over lotion, and I am clearly about ease in regards to beauty!
Ahh I love a lip that is coloured! When I am a entire mess, it makes me feel pulled together and lady-like.
To get a night out or more look, Jane Iredale’s Forever Pink Lip Stain is where it as the name suggests it is a bright pink that lasts eternally.

My morning beauty routine only takes approximately 2-3 minutes with all the aforementioned products and THAT is a gorgeous thing. Honestly, I spend more time looking at the fridge.
And like I said, it’s ironic that adopting an extremely easy, natural skincare regimen was able to completely change my complexion — I used to think that I actually needed all of those harsh chemicals from the products I had been using, and the more the merrier. Now I know better (hell, I even only wash my face once a day!) And my tears are spent much more significant things, like the movie Up (seriously, I had no idea it would be such a tear-jerker!!) .
